| Peter Bellefountaine was a successful money manager and business executive before he settled into financial planning. It gave him a tireless ‘real world’ experience and a unique understanding of his professional specialty today: people in or near retirement. “I know what it’s like running a 24/7 restaurant business,” Peter says. “All too often, we don’t have enough time to think about retirement until we’re five or six years from the day we want to retire… that’s where I come in.” After completing a BA in Science and History at the State University of New York-Brockport, he moved to Breckenridge, opened one of the resort’s most successful restaurants and was eventually recruited by the Doubletree Hotel chain to run numerous hotel food services operations from coast to coast. Working with sophisticated financial executives at Doubletree, Peter managed $15 million daily budgets and corporate staff in several Doubletree departments nationwide. After more than a decade, he returned to Denver and became a Series 7- licensed stock broker for JW Genesis, re-directing his previous money-management expertise toward individual Baby Boomers preparing for retirement. Today, this veteran financial planner is focused on asset preservation through diverse, asset allocation strategies. “Baby Boomers are, basically, ‘My Generation,’ to paraphrase the song,” Peter adds. “For them, it’s often important to move relatively quickly and effectively. To do that, I work with first-rate institutional money managers who tend to be very selective about working with other financial professionals. Peak Capital Investment Services in Denver gives me that kind of clout and it makes a difference.” With the SEC’s Registered Advisor designation on his list of credentials – including Accredited Asset Management Specialist – Peter’s in-house retirement-planning clients include industrial giants like Lucent, Avaya, Excel and Qwest. Today he counts more than $20 million in assets-under management in his client base, where 80% are over 55. He still credits some of his success to the restaurant business, “where you have about 45 seconds to fix whatever’s going wrong for an unhappy customer,” Peter recalls. “I took that service-oriented approach, and the ability to listen, into financial planning.” Peter is an accomplished skier, tackling the toughest Double Black Diamond slopes at his favorite resort, Copper Mountain in Colorado. Living in southeast Denver, he enjoys whitewater rafting with his wife and two teenage children, and a healthy, active lifestyle remains an important part of his career regimen: “I plan to be there for my clients today and down the road because I really love what I do.” E-mail Peter at: peter.bellefountaine@peakcapital.com * Peter Bellefountaine is a fee/commission-based financial planner with securities underwriting by Linsco/Private Ledger through Peak Capital Investment Services of Denver.
